Honeybees Spotlight: Shante
By: Hornets.com | August 16, 2011

Hometown: New Orleans.
Year as a Honeybee: Third.

Previous dance experience:

I first realized I wanted to dance when I was a little girl; I was 7 or 8 when I realized I loved dancing so much! From dancing in my parents’ living room to dancing in a studio, dancing became a huge part of my life! Over the years dance became my passion instead of just an activity of mine. I’ve attended many dance schools throughout my dance life! Debbie Richard’s School of Dance was the most influential of all and taught me most about dance! I was a part of my middle school and high school dance team (Thurgood Marshall and McDonogh #35 whoop whoop!). After Hurricane Katrina I continued to follow my dream and passion for dance and became a member of the New Orleans Saintsations for three years where my knowledge of dancing continued to expand! Now I am a member of the New Orleans Honeybees where I continue to realize how blessed I am within my dance career! I wouldn’t have had it any other way! Shout out to the hottest dance team in the league!

What I love about being a Honeybee:

Words cannot express the feeling I have being a Honeybee! I love being surrounded by a group of beautiful, talented and amazing women who have the same drive and passion for dance as I have! I also love being a part of an organization that’s outstanding and the best at what they do in the NBA! The very best part about being a Honeybee is the games and the fans! From running out of the game-ops tunnel onto the court all the way until the clock hits 0:00, there’s such an adrenaline rush that keeps the biggest smile on my face knowing that I am experiencing something I’ve always dreamed of! These are memories I’ll be able to tell my children and grandchildren about!

What I love about dancing:

What I love most about dancing is the feeling I get inside during those actual moments I am dancing! I can release all feelings, negative and positive, and just smile no matter what I have going on! Dancing brings a special type of joy and excitement to my life that’s unexplainable! Dancing is my addiction and there’s absolutely no cure for it!

What I love about New Orleans:

OMG! Where do I start? I love the people, the culture, the NOLA holidays, the food, the feelings, the sports, the attractions, the excitement, the Jazz music, the French Quarter… do I really need to continue?! New Orleans is my hometown and there’s no place like it! I love that I can say I was born and raised in a place where we always “Laissez les bon temps roulet!” (Let the good times roll!) I will always smile when I say I am a “Nawlins” resident!

What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:

First and foremost I love to spend time with my friends and family, especially my little niece Saige! She keeps me smiling no matter what! I am also a full-time student and work part time at another job, so I also enjoy doing those things when I’m not dancing with the Honeybees! Vacations, relaxing on the beach, are always a plus for me! I also enjoy just being lazy at home, in bed watching all my recorded shows on the DVR! I tend to take up all the room on the DVR so others who may want to record something, most of the time, can’t! lol!
