BISMARCK, ND, March 27, 2009 – The two-time defending NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that they have acquired forward David Monds from the available player pool.
Monds, (6’8, 240 lbs) who was drafted by the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in the second round of the 2008 NBA D-League draft, averaged 13.4 points 9.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 30 games this season, 28 of them in the starting lineup. Monds was released from the Thunderbirds due to injury on March 11th, but has since been cleared to head back to the court.
“Monds is a very athletic player that will give us depth off the bench”, said Wizards GM Tom Wagganer. “We are happy to find such a great talent in the pool this late in the season and look forward to David helping us as we make a push for the playoffs.”
While attending Oklahoma St,, Monds averaged 6.7 ppg and five rebounds in 34 games as a senior. Monds spent the 2007-08 season in the Turkish TB2L with Gelisim Koleji, averaging 16.7 points and 10.0 rebounds in six games before Moving on to BG 74 Goettingen in the German 1.Bundesliga, where he averaged 6.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 26 games.
